The Great Bend City Council was presented a proposed list of projects during the first meeting in January to be aided by 2024 year-end transfers. Great Bend had $1.2 million in non-budgeted transfers.

City Clerk Shawna Schafer said $400,000 of the total came from the water and sewer funds and that money will remain with those departments for lift station rehabs, sewer treatment plant equipment and waterlines. That leaves $800,000 for general fund transfers.

"I have earmarked this for certain projects; however, I hear people are still undecided on what they want to use this money for," said Schafer. "For me to close out 2024, I do want to transfer this. I was thinking we could just transfer the $800,000 over to the capital improvement fund with a to be determined status. The council can come back at a later date to tell me what to use the money for."

The council voted to place the $800,000 in transfers in the capital improvement fund.

Schafer listed recommended projects for the funds including a repair to the Events Center parking lot, SRCA Dragstrip maintenance, dragstrip litigation, ballfield maintenance, property insurance deductible, welcome signs and park maintenance.
