One of the first state cross country championships to finish Saturday morning was the 2A girls' race at the Wamego Country Club. A pair of Lady Eagles - Eleanor Joiner and Jenna Borror - earned all-state honors as top-20 finishers.
Remington and Berean Academy deadlocked for the title with 108 team points but Remington won the tiebreak for the championship. Hoxie ran third with 132 points to beat Oskaloosa by eight spots. Ellinwood finished seventh with 150 points in a tight field.
Smith Center sophomore Madison Howland cruised to the individual title by 33 seconds in 18:50.76. The freshman Joiner paced Ellinwood in 15th in 21:36.86, 19 seconds from a top-10 finish. Borror, another Lady Eagle freshman, finished 18th in 21:45.18.
Kyla McCormick placed 45th in 23:06.26, Ali Gonzalez ran 57th in 23:48.76, and Madison Dombroski won the final team points in 77th with a time of 25:01.85. Heidi Brauer finished 81st in 25:19.75, and Kynlee Wesner placed 101st in 34:43.97.
