Seven candidates for the County Commission, Districts 1, 4, and 5, and four for state House Representatives, Districts 112 and 113, have been invited to attend the July 20, Candidate Forum at the Fort Zarah room at the Events Center in Great Bend. The doors open at 6:30 pm for an informal meet-and-greet time, with the forum starting at 7–8 p.m. The public may speak with the candidates again until 8:30 pm.

County Commissioners are vital to local government, handling Budget & Finance, Infrastructure & Maintenance, Public Health & Safety, Land Use & Zoning, and Citizen Representation. They serve as the direct link between residents and larger state or federal policies.

State House Representatives play a crucial role in local governance by directly drafting, debating, and enacting laws that impact our daily lives. They oversee the state budget, determine tax rates, and influence key policies in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety.

The public is welcome to come and hear what these candidates have to say about their skills and experience in addressing pressing concerns. Each candidate will have time for an introduction and will answer two questions on local and state issues. Eagle Media will be live-streaming the event. More information on the candidates can be found on the Vote 411 Voter Guide: www.Vote411.org. Enter your address and follow the prompts to view the races.

Aug. 4, 2026, is the Primary election date. Advance voting begins July 15. Advance ballots must be received by the close of polls on Election Day. Please remember that independent voters can choose a Democratic or Republican ballot at the polls. Those who wish to remain unaffiliated may vote only on the amendment electing Supreme Court justices and eliminating the current merit-selection system.
