Isern Inc. submitted a plumbing permit application on behalf of Ronald Chrest, who resides at 405 Kiowa Road. The application is to make use of the sanitary sewer even though the residency is located outside the corporate city limits of Great Bend.
Chrest’s son is working on the project and contacted city
officials to determine if he could tap into the city’s utility services rather
than use a septic system.
"The contractor started the project and they were almost done, and then they called and pulled the plug on us. They had to fill it back in. The water meter is there and is hooked up to the meter. We're just waiting to tap into the main."
Great Bend Building Official Logan Burns said the city looks at each case and
felt a residential project should be approved.
"I think it always depends on who's hooking up to it," said Burns. "If you have a business that could be harmful to our system, I could see that. If it's just a single-family dwelling, something simple, I think that's something we could easily approve."
The Great Bend City Council approved the request to connect to the sanitary
sewer line. The sewer connection fee for outside of city limits is $1,000.
