A search committee is going through the four semi-finalists to become the next president at Barton Community College. In September, Dr. Carl Heilman announced his retirement plans as the president at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
The committee has conducted online Zoom calls with the four candidates this week, and Barton Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Johnson said two finalists will be announced next week.
"There were a couple of committee members that weren't able to attend some of the meetings, but with technology we're able to record those Zooms," said Johnson. "Those individuals that could not attend will be able to view those meetings. Look forward to announcements next week."
The two finalists will visit campus for in-person meetings, including those open to the public in mid-January.
"We'll have them on campus in January for meetings with the committee, the board, groups on campus and community stakeholders," said Johnson. "We'll set specific days. We'll have their spouses and families invited as well."
The Trustees plan to announce Barton’s incoming president at a special meeting on Jan. 30. Heilman has served as Barton’s president since July 2006.
