From the City of Great Bend
As we prepare for family gatherings, the City of Great Bend Sewer Department would like to remind everyone about two common issues: flushing disposable wipes and pouring fats, oils, and grease down the drains. These actions can cause blockages in your residential plumbing and potentially affect the City’s main sewer lines. To avoid unpleasant and frustrating problems over the holidays, please follow these tips:
- Cool It, Can It, Trash It: Allow fats, oils, and grease to cool and solidify, then scrape them into a container and dispose of them in the trash.
- Wipe Before Washing: Use paper towels to wipe greasy dishes and pans before washing them.
- Use Strainers: Place strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids.
- Dispose of Wipes Properly: Always throw disposable wipes in the trash, not the toilet.
We appreciate your cooperation and consideration. We hope everyone can avoid preventable plumbing issues and have a happy holiday season
