October is always a big month for Great Bend Firefighters, as well as fire departments across the nation. Locally, Great Bend Fire will visit area elementary schools as Fire Prevention Month. This year's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety," related to proper care and disposal of lithium-ion batteries.

On Oct. 7 at 10:30 a.m., Great Bend firefighters will join Great Bend Public Library staff for a special story time. Children will be able to see real fire fighting equipment up close and ask questions about being a firefighter.
