Carolann Morrison, age 89, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away Monday afternoon, July 17, 2023 at The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. Carolann (a.k.a. Carol Ann) was born in Great Bend, Kansas on August 19,1933 to Ethel Marie (Milberger) and Judson T. Bradford. At an early age her father died in an oil field accident. A few years later, her widowed mother and John S. “Jack” Morrison were united in marriage. It was then she was adopted by Jack Morrison.
Carolann went to elementary through high school in Great Bend, Kansas graduating in 1951. During part of her high school years, she wrote a column for the Great Bend Tribune called Teen Talk. After graduating, she attended Kansas University and St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas. She became a flight attendant for Braniff Airways. She was based out of Kansas City, before moving to Dallas, TX where she pursued her career until 1966. After leaving Braniff, she worked in the travel industry until retirement on April 16, 1999. She returned to Great Bend to live with and care for her mother.
Carolann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend, the Presbyterian Women, and the Red Hat Society. She served on the Great Bend Library Board for 8 years. Her pets were her greatest joy.
She is survived by her cousin, Mary Everett of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mary’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild; and Kevin Pflughoeft of Great Bend, Kansas who Carolann called the adopted grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
According to Carolann’s wishes, there will be no viewing or services. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas. Carolann requested that memorials be designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society at Great Bend, Kansas with Charter Funerals in charge.
