A single good deed can get elementary students around Barton County entered into Eagle Media's Make a Difference Contest. Cailey Potter, a third grader at Park Elementary School in Great Bend, was recognized for her good deeds. Monday morning, she was surprised in front of her classmates as the March Make a Difference winner.

"I can make a difference by helping people when they are hurt and playing with them if their feelings are hurt," said Potter.

On the form Cailey turned in she stated that she can make a difference by being nice to others.

As a winner in the Make a Difference Contest, Cailey was handed a Great Bend Chamber of Commerce gift certificate worth $100. Her teacher, Tabitha Gray, also received $100.

"Cailey is always the one who shows up when someone needs help, whether they spill their crayon box or they need a cheering up, she is always there to give them that extra bit of confidence," said Gray.

Eagle's Director of Promotions Becca Fletcher presented Cailey her prize during P.E. on Monday morning.

Make a Difference Contest forms were distributed to Barton County elementary schools in August. Eligible students can enter the contest by filling out the form and stating how they are making a difference in the world around them. Winners are randomly selected with the student winning a $100 chamber certificate and the nominating teacher winning $100. New winners will be drawn each month through May.

The winning student will also get a visit from Eagle Media staff and be featured on a radio news broadcast.
