Schroeder wins, Panther tennis team places fourth at home

The teams played at the Shannon Schartz courts in Great Bend, but Thursday's tennis invitational was actually hosted by Hoisington. Scott City scored 64 points to run away with the competition. The next three spots were decided by just two points, with Great Bend placing fourth with 41. 

Brendyn Schroeder had a banner day at No. 1 singles with a 4-0 record. He defeated three of his opponents 8-2, and took down Ellsworth 8-1. Schroeder defeated Scott City 8-2 in the championship match.

Kaden Deines and Cameron Harbaugh moved into the No. 1 doubles spot for a fourth-place finish. The duo opened with an 8-3 win over Haven before dropping an 8-7 (10) thriller against Phillipsburg, and an 8-1 match to the champions from Ellsworth. Great Bend lost its final match 8-3 to Cimarron.

Jordan Manning and Jacob Parks posted a 2-2 record at No. 2 doubles. The pair fell to Haven 8-3, then defeated Phillipsburg 8-6. After an 8-5 loss to Ellsworth, the duo defeated Cimarron 8-4.

Aaron Ramirez won his final match of the day at No. 2 singles. He lost 8-0 matches to Haven and Ellsworth early in the day, and dropped an 8-4 set to Phillipsburg. He defeated Cimarron 8-2 to finish at 1-3.

The Panthers return to the Shannon Schartz court Monday morning to host the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Schartz will deliver a ceremonial first serve.
