The Great Bend Recreation Commission and City of Great Bend plan to
review the budget over the next couple of weeks for improvements of the park on
the south side of Brit Spaugh Park. A design is expected to come soon.
Surveying work of the land, near the Great Bend High School, started in
September and is finished. The south side of the park consists of a small
baseball field, horseshoe pits, parking lot and an area where an old BMX track
used to be.
Great Bend Rec Executive Director Diann Henderson said a committee will review the
design and budget from the engineer before it is revealed.
"Team members reviewing that draft are myself, GBRC Assistant Superintendent Chris Umphres, Mayor Cody Schmidt, Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis and Director of Public Lands Scott Keeler. We'll be getting together again to review it. Hopefully next month we can roll something out."
The city and Rec Commission have discussed financing improvements that include
a basketball court, mini soccer pitch, pickleball courts, restrooms and a
playground area.
