Great Bend Sophomore Kaiden Esfeld is a Western Athletic Conference champion after winning the boys 5-K race Thursday in Liberal. As a team, the boys finished third overall while the Lady Panthers just missed out on a WAC team title as they finished second to Dodge City by just two places in the final results.

Esfeld won the boys race in a time of 15:54.10 to beat second place finisher Devin Chappel of Garden City by just over 20-seconds. Matthew Huslig (11th), Malachi Wasson (12th), and Apollos Johnson (15th), all were able to finish in the top 15.

In the girls race, Emilia Diaz took third while teammate Emma Loomis finished fourth but it wasn't enough to help the Lady Panthers who finished second in the team standings to Dodge City who scored 39 to 41 for Great Bend. Addy Nicholson (10th), Morgan Beckwith (11th) and Aliana Jackson (13th) finished in the top 15.

The Panthers will run at home next Saturday when they host a 5A Regional at Lake Barton.
