Behind Lakota Schultz and Lainie Sleichter's new personal best times, the Barton Community College women's cross-country team finished sixth at the Region 6 Championships held Friday morning at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas.
Fielding a team for just the second time this season, the Cougars finished sixth amongst the eight Division I Region 6 teams with 151 points.
No. 7 Butler Community College captured the Region 6 Division I crown edging out No. 6 Hutchinson Community College by one point, 63-64 while No. 13 Cloud County Community College fell five points back in third place with 68.
Schultz led Barton's lineup with a 20th place finish overall and 19th result within the Region 6 Division I field. The sophomore improved from her prior circuit around the Kansas Veterans Home just two weeks ago shaving off 48-seconds for her best 5K stoppage of 19:22.22 in the overall 70 participant field.
A pair making their 5K debuts came in next for the Cougars, Alissandra Jackson finishing 26th behind a 20:03.63 stoppage while Shone Walters fell two spots back in 28th with a time of 20:04.91.
Improving from her first trip around the circuit at the Tiger Preview, Sleichter trimmed off five-seconds in her second go-around turning in a personal best performance time of 24:31.94 for 52nd place in the Division I field.
Makiya Mosley was the final Cougar to finish, placing 57th amongst the Division I participants and 69th overall in her first ever 5K in a time of 31:15.52.
Barton will have the next two weekends off in preparation for the Division I NJCAA National Championships held Saturday November 9th at the Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virgina.
