Posted Feb 19, 2024 9:00 PM

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will be hosting a Sun Power Kids Day Out titled “Sun Power” on Friday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Great Bend Rec Activity Center (2715 18th Street).  Join us for a day of discovery and fun.

We’re going to load up on a bus first thing and head out to Barton Community College. At the college we’re going to be learning how the sun provides energy for all the life on earth through some fun activities.  Then were off to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. At the KWEC we’re going to learn about how even in the winter the sun can be powerful.  We’ll harness the power of the sun to create art using items found on a nature hike and we’ll use solar panels for science experiments. Following the KWEC were going to be bused back to the Activity Center for the rest of the day.

All participants will be required to bring a lunch and beverage in a cooler (with ice if needed). Please let us know at registration if your child has any food allergies that we need to be aware of.  Students will be bussed by USD 428.  Pre-registration is required by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

A complete list of programs and class details can be found at the GBRC website at www.greatbendrec.com.  Please contact the Recreation Commission office at 793-3755, ext 110, or stop by the office located at 1214 Stone Street for more information or with any questions you may have.
