On Thursday, Oct. 26, at about 11:35 a.m., the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an injury accident involving three vehicles at the intersection of K-156 Highway and Northeast 110 Avenue. Deputies located two vehicles in the intersection with heavy damage and a third vehicle overturned in the north ditch.
Investigation at the scene indicates a 2014 Kia Sorento, operated by John Hartley, age 73 of Wichita, was westbound and had stopped to make a left turn onto Northeast 110 Avenue. A 2015 Jeep Patriot, operated by Megan Grieve, age 38 of Great Bend, was also westbound and did not see the Kia stopped ahead of her. The Jeep struck the rear of the Kia forcing it into the eastbound lane. The Kia was struck by an eastbound Ford F550 truck operated by Kevin Houser of Raymore, Missouri. After striking the Hartley vehicle the truck overturned into the north ditch.
Hartley, and his passenger Marilyn Hartley, age 78 of Wichita, were transported to Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington with non-life-threatening injuries. Grieve was transported to The University of Kansas Heath System in Great Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. Houser and a passenger in his truck, Kevin Bossaller, age 57, also of Raymore Missouri, were not injured in the collision.
Occupants of all of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
