A regular curtain may not be practical for the in-and-out traffic at the USD 428 Central Kitchen on East 10th Street in Great Bend. But the district will utilize some technology to maximize cleanliness and efficiency as food is brought in through the large doors on the south side of the facility. Assistant Superintendent John Popp outlined the purchase of three air curtains during Monday's board of education meeting.
"It's a big unit that just blasts a curtain of air down so when you open the door it's just blasting air to try to keep some of that dust and other stuff out," he said. "In the wintertime, it should help keep some of the cold air out as well."
The district purchased three curtains from Lenexa-based Triangle Sales, Inc. for $11,214. It will cost an additional $2,500 to install the curtains.
"I think it's going to be very positive because that back area gets a lot of wind and flies and things like that," Popp said.
The order from Triangle says the lead time on the curtains is approximately eight days plus transit time. Popp said the district plans to have the curtains installed in 4-6 weeks.
