Barton County’s 2024 crime index report released by the KBI

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation released the 2024 Kansas Crime Index Report. With an estimated population of just under 25,000, law enforcement in Barton County reported a total of 337 crime offenses, of which 70 were listed as violent crime offenses.

Data is dependent on victims reporting crimes and statistics are gathered from reports submitted by local law enforcement agencies. Barton County’s stats derive from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Great Bend Police Department, Hoisington Police Department, Ellinwood Police Department and the Claflin Police Department.

In 2024, the report showed Barton County handled one murder, 12 rape cases, two robberies, 51 burglaries, 198 thefts, 18 motor vehicle thefts and five arson cases.

The 2024 Kansas Crime Index Report indicated that violent crime in Kansas decreased by 6.7% from 2023.
