Martin Joseph “Barney” Kreutzer, Jr., 81, La Crosse, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at his home.
Barney was born March 19, 1942, in La Crosse, the son of Martin J. and Viola (Herrman) Kreutzer. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1960 graduate of Schoenchen High School, Schoenchen, he along with his wife, Anna Mae, owned and operated Creative Printing, La Crosse, for 33 years before his retirement.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council #2970, both of La Crosse. A lifetime American Legion member, he was a former member of the Rush County Jaycees, and a former firefighter with the La Crosse Brookdale Fire District #4. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Diehards and enjoyed assisting with the Cedar Bluff flag project. He was a “helper,” and never met a stranger who wasn’t a friend.
Barney loved spending time with friends and family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Many hours were spent camping, boating, and fishing at Cedar Bluff Lake.
He was a United States Army veteran serving six years.
On Aug. 16, 1965, he married Anna Mae Herrman at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse.
Survivors include: his wife, Anna Mae Kreutzer, La Crosse; two sons, Ron Kreutzer, and his wife, Jennifer, Garden City, and Chad Kreutzer, and his wife, Ashley, Overland Park; four grandchildren, Ashleigh Bermudez, and her husband, Jose, Alexa Kreutzer, and her fiancé, Jake Feuerborn, Andrew Kreutzer, and Chase Kreutzer; one great-granddaughter, Keira Leigh Bermudez; and two brothers, Donald Kreutzer, and his wife, Carol, Shawnee, and Robert Kreutzer, and his wife, Charlene, Stafford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law, Alvin and Agnes Herrman; and a sister in law, Patty Herrman.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7 p.m.
Church visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. Interment with military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard, and the Bazine and La Crosse American Legion Posts will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, or the Rebecca A. Morrison House, Salina.
