Hoisington is getting ready for its 127th Annual Labor Day Celebration that runs Sept. 1-4. About half of those big weekends have included home football games. For the past two years, the Cardinal football team has opened the season on the road. This year, Hoisington High School opens the season at home against Hesston on Friday, Sept. 1. Chamber Director Karen Baldyga said that will be a perfect kick-off to the celebration with a Community BBQ from 5-7 p.m.

"That will be located across from the football stadium at the corner of North Main and Highway 4," she said. "We'll have pulled pork and an awesome meal to go with it. That will be $10 per person. We'll also have a beer garden that will run from 5-11 p.m. People can come down and grab something to eat before heading over to the home football game."

New this year at Saturday's Kidstop is the M&C Pedal Power tractor pull sponsored by BTI. The event begins at 11 a.m. that morning at the Activity Center, but Baldyga suggested participants arrive by 10:30 to register.

"This will be the first year we're going to have a kid's tractor pull," she said. "Any of the kids that qualify will end up being able to go to the Kansas State Fair."

This year's Kidstop from 9 a.m. to noon will include the Touch-a-Truck, arts and crafts, kids races, and more.
