A dominant first half set the tone Saturday afternoon as the Barton Community College women's soccer team got back on track, rolling to a 4-1 victory over Coffeyville Community College at Great Bend's Cavanaugh Field.

The victory evens Barton's conference record at 3-3-0 and 5-4-0 overall, while Coffeyville drops to 1-5-0 in league play and 2-8-1 on the year. The Cougars now head back on the road Tuesday for an 11:00 a.m. (CT) matchup at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Barton jump-started the three-goal opening frame midway through the first half as Katie Potter drew a penalty kick after being taken down inside the box. Sara Aguirre calmly toed the line converting the opportunity for her first of what would be a two-goal afternoon giving the Cougars the early 1-0 edge.

Kayla Methman doubled the margin in the 38th minute, stepping into a 30-yard free kick that skipped through traffic and slipped between the Coffeyville goalkeeper's legs for her second tally of the year.

The Cougars added a dagger just seven ticks before halftime when Isela Barron-Tinajero pounded on her own rebound after her initial attempt clanged off the post, finishing for her first collegiate goal and 3-0 lead at halftime.

Aguirre capped the offensive surge for Barton in the 70th minute, timing her run to the backside of the box and hammering home Saki Takaki's well placed corner for her second net shaker of the day and team-leading seventh of the year, stretching the margin to 4-0.

Coffeyville spoiled the clean sheet bid late, breaking through in the 88th minute on a free kick from Bernita Baafi that tucked just under the crossbar for the 4-1 finish.

Barton controlled the stat sheet, outshooting the Red Ravens 20-10 while holding a 12-6 edge in shots on target. Leonie Kerle earned the win in net making four saves before giving way to Kimberly Escobedo, who added one stop over the final 20 minutes.
