Barton Community College’s Academic Development Center supports all
students as they develop the skills needed to find success in the classroom. The
Center can provide an academic mentor that helps students learn about the
expectations of a college course, develop study skills and time management
skills.
Barton Executive Director of Foundational Education Stephanie Joiner said
academic coaching offers one-on-one assistance to a student with study habits,
test preparation or note taking.
"It's a one-on-one mentoring relationship that we create with students," said Joiner. "It can also reach students that are not physically on our campus via Zoom."
Along with other services, the Center provides Cougar Conversations every
Tuesday at 7 p.m. Directed discussions take place on topics that support students
with organizing study materials, online course tips and more.
"In the first semester, we had more than 40 students participate in Cougar Conversations," said Joiner. "Over half of them came back for a second. Those are good indicators that they're finding what they're looking for and participating in those conversations."
The Academic Development Center is located inside the Barton library in room
L-136. Find out more at bartonccc.edu.
