During this week’s meeting, the Barton County Commission approved an Independent Contractor Agreement to appoint an interim county counselor while the county continues its search for a permanent replacement.
County Administrator Matt Patzner explained that longtime County Counselor Patrick Hoffman has accepted a position with the city of Salina. To ensure continuity of legal services during the transition, the county will retain Hoffman on an interim basis until a new county counselor is hired.
The county counselor position remains open until filled, and the county is actively seeking qualified applicants. Candidates must be licensed attorneys, and applications will continue to be reviewed as they are received.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for Hoffman’s willingness to assist during the transition period, noting that the interim agreement allows the county to maintain stability and legal support while conducting a thorough search for the right long-term candidate.
