On Sunday, July 28, the Barton County Fire District #2 responded to the report of a pasture fire in the area of the 800 block of US 281 Highway. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on the south side of the field moving north with the strong southern winds pushing it.
Crews attacked the fire with three trucks and supported by the tanker truck refilling the fire trucks so they didn’t have to leave the scene for water. The fire was brought under control fairly quick with mop up taking an extended time. Total time on the fire scene was about two hours making sure hot spots were put out.
No structures or animals were hurt. The Fire District was assisted by Barton County Dispatch and Barton County Sheriff's Office.
