The No. 11 ranked Barton Community College women's golf team followed a strong start Monday with a solid Tuesday round dealing with high winds, placing second overall while recording the top finish among conference programs at the Conq Classic/KJCCC Meet #2 held at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
Competing in a seven-team field featuring five nationally ranked squads, the Cougars posted a 56-over 624 (304-320), finishing just two strokes behind No. 13 Redlands Community College's 622 (304-318). Among conference counterparts, Barton paced the field ahead of No. 14 Garden City (639) and No. 17 Dodge City (659).
Barton set the tone early, matching the tournament's low round with a 304 in Monday's opener to share the top of the leaderboard before Tuesday's 320 in falling two strokes behind Redland. Despite the slight shift, the Cougars remained firmly in the hunt throughout, as just 17 strokes separated the top three teams in a tightly contested race.
Panalee Prachavittayagon led Barton's lineup with a runner-up finish at 10-over 152 (74-78), moving up a spot on Tuesday to finish five strokes back of Redlands' Ivanna Gerez.
Suri Rocha Orozco climbed five spots into a tie for third at 11-over 153 (77-76), while Chomchanok Laparojkit slipped three places into eighth at 15-over 157 (76-81), giving Barton three golfers inside the top eight of the 36-participant field.
Diana Alvarado finished tied for 11th at 20-over 162 (77-85), Alexandria Baxter placed tied for 17th at 166 (83-83), Alexandria Hunt took 20th at 169 (85-84), and Giovanna Tabanag rounded out Barton's entries in 25th at 173 (85-88).
Barton returns to action Friday and Saturday hosting KJCCC Meet #3 at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course in Hays, Kansas.
