Impounded vehicles, seized vehicles, and miscellaneous tools and office items are all part of the annual Barton County Sheriff's Office and Great Bend Police Department auction scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 at the sheriff's office shooting range, 396 NE 30 Road, just east of the Barton County Landfill. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said this year's auction will again feature several vehicles.

"We don't spend a lot of time getting them cleaned up, so you're going to pay less than you probably would off of a lot," he said. "But we'll get more than we would for salvage out of them. Some of them are going to sell for salvage. They're damaged that badly."

Vehicles that are seized by law enforcement as part of asset forfeitures will be auctioned off. Proceeds from those sales directly benefit the agencies. Other sales help generate funds for the city and county without using tax dollars.

"It goes into a special fund that we use strictly for equipment and training," Bellendir said. "It's restricted by the state as to what we can do with that money. I'm selling a couple of trucks that belong to Road and Bridge. They'll get more for them than they would on trade. That money will go directly back into the general fund for the county."

With the recent HVAC renovation at the Barton County Courthouse completed, Bellendir said this year's auction will feature various retired office items.
