The Barton Community College Board of Trustees is just a few days away from publicly announcing the college’s next president. Last September, Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman announced his retirement at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
A search committee was able to speed up the timeline in finding the next president so Barton would not lose possible candidates to other job opportunities.
Trustees Chairman Mike Johnson said Tuesday the college is still on track to conduct a special meeting on Jan. 30 to make the announcement.
"We're continuing the process," said Johnson. "We've had some developments in the last couple of days. We've talked to the candidates in the last couple of days. We'll keep moving forward. There will be an executive session shortly to discuss personnel matters involved with that decision."
Both Dr. Marcus Garstecki and Dr. Seth Carter participated in public forums on the Great Bend campus last week.

Heilman was named the 5th president at Barton in July 2006. His final day with the college is June 30, 2024.
