The Great Bend City Council will revisit an old agenda item and consider several new items during tonight's meeting. In the final meeting of July, the council was to consider Dragstrip Amendment No. 4 pertaining to savings from the SRCA project west of town. Upon closeout, the final cost resulted in $72,945.15 in savings, half of which will be paid to Bartlett & West per the original agreement on the project. Tonight, the council will vote to approve a contract reduction of $36,472.57 to account for those savings.
The body will also hear from Great Bend Economic Development President Jason Kuilan for his monthly report, and Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns will present abatements.
One new agenda item relates to dangerous property located at 218 Pine St. in Great Bend. In May 2025, a resolution was passed for the single-family dwelling to be repaired, razed, or removed. The property was sold in the tax sale before work could begin. Tonight's agenda item will start the abatement process over again.
The council will also consider a franchise agreement with Midwest Energy. The city currently has an agreement set to expire in September that covers the Westport Addition in Great Bend. The purpose of the agreement is to construct, operate, and maintain all electric transmission and distribution lines. An amendment to the contract will likely increase the amount of revenue the city receives from the agreement. The amount of franchise payments over the last three years have averaged approximately $16,000 a year.
