The annual book sale at the Great Bend Public Library has many benefits. For area readers, it's a way to find bargain books. It's also a way for the library to weed its collection and raise money. This year's event begins Thursday, Oct. 20. Adult Services Librarian Erin Ferguson said Thursday is a good time join Friends of the Library.
"Thursday evening, you pay $5 to be an early bird or $10 to join as Friends," she said. "Thursday's evening is the Friends drive, and that's from 5-7 p.m."
Friends of the Library put on the book sale each year, and they volunteer and help support library programming throughout the remainder of the year. Dues are $10 for an individual and $20 for a family. The memberships run from October through September.
The book sale will be open to the public at no cost Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday is half-price day from 1-5 p.m., and Monday will be donation day. Proceeds from the book sale go towards other library programming.
