Barton Community College Vice President of Student Services Angie Maddy gave a report at this week’s Barton Board of Trustees meeting about the college’s academic advancement. One of Barton’s goals is to make sure students have the prerequisites sufficient for successful transfer and students will be prepared to succeed after they transfer to other schools.

With data from the fall 2023 semester, Maddy said GPAs looked good for former Barton students that transferred to in-state universities.

"In my report last year, we had a couple of schools where our students had transferred and their GPAs dipped a little bit," said Maddy. "It was not significant but we don't like to see that. Comparatively, they were back up again for this last year."

Out of Kansas State University, University of Kansas, Wichita State University, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Pittsburg State and Washburn, there were 63 Barton students that transferred to Kansas State, the most of any university. Barton students had an average GPA of 3.14 at KSU.

"Our students look strong when they transfer to institutions within the state," added Maddy.
