Lady Panther volleyball team convincing in first two matches of season

The Great Bend High School volleyball team made quick work of a pair of Western Athletic Conference opponents in Thursday's season opener in Garden City. The Lady Panthers downed the host Buffs 25-15, 25-16, and took care of Liberal 25-11, 25-12.

Junior Cassie Ellegood paced the attack with seven kills, followed by freshman Kya Behr with six, five from junior Kara Feist, and four from senior Sadie Spray, who also led the team with three aces. Spray was also busy defensively with 10 digs. Senior Macy Nachtigal finished with seven digs, and Behr and senior Paige Thexton split 11 more. Behr had 16 of the team's 19 assists.

The Lady Panthers were even more dominant against Liberal, allowing a total of 23 points in two sets. Seven players had kills in the match, led by Feist's nine and four from senior Makenzie Premer. The service game was strong with eight aces. Thexton and Spray accounted for half of those serves. Nachtigal and Behr each had 11 digs defensively, and Thexton and Spray combined for 11. Behr finished the match with 17 assists.

The volleyball teams head to Dodge City next Tuesday.
