Heidi Murkoff’s “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” is one of the most popular pregnancy guides to offer advice, symptom management, and lifestyle guidance for expecting parents. The Barton County Health Department can also help. The organization will host the Barton County Baby Shower at the Hoisington Activity Center from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. Piper Anderson, breast feeding peer counselor at the health department, said the event is designed to serve many in the community.

“If you are pregnant, if you have a brand-new baby, if you’re a grandparent or a caregiver, everybody is welcome to come,” she said.

Numerous door prizes and gifts will be handed out throughout the evening. More important, attendees will hear from an infant CPR educator, and health department staff will conduct car seat checks and answer questions about car seat safety.

“We’re going to have lots of different vendors there, everybody from our own health department, we have hospitals coming, there are different insurance companies, just all of these great community organizations,” Anderson said.

The Barton County Health Department also offers “Becoming a Mom” classes. The next session begins on April 14, with classes running from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday for six weeks. Contact the health department for more information about the next session.
