Venture Corporation continues work on the resurfacing of Broadway Avenue
and the reconstruction of the 19th and Harrison intersection in
Great Bend.
The $1.1 million project is part of a Community Development Block Grant program
with 50% of the project reimbursed up to $600,000.
The project started June 20, and Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis
said this week the work is expected to be finished this month.
"The contractor has started paving a little bit on Broadway," said Francis. "Work progresses and we're still targeting that end of July timeframe to have it all completed."
The project is repaving Broadway from Polk to Morton, causing one side of Broadway
to be closed at a time.
The reconstructed intersection at 19th and Harrison will give Great
Bend Middle School students extra safety this fall. The project will shorten
the distance the children have to walk across the street. The street will be
narrowed with bump-out sidewalks near the crosswalk.
