KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jakob Junis ran his scoreless streak to 14 innings and the Kansas City Royals staked him to a seven-run lead before their bullpen gave most of it back in a 7-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Scott Barlow put two on with one out in the ninth for Kansas City before getting Bo Bichette to pop out and striking out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for his first save of the season. Guerrero finished a triple shy of the cycle. Anthony Kay took the loss after giving up five runs over 3 1/3 innings in a spot start for Toronto.

NEW YORK (AP) — Nolan Arenado’s contract was amended when the All-Star third baseman was traded to the Cardinals by the Colorado Rockies, adding a $15 million salary for 2027 to leave him owed $214 million over seven seasons by St. Louis. As part of the amended contract, $50 million of that $214 million will be deferred and payable through 2041, according to details obtained by The Associated Press. Colorado would pay St. Louis $51 million, if Arenado decides to keep his entire contract and not opt out early. Arenado is batting .314 with three homers and eight RBIs through his first 12 games.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma guards De’Vion Harmon and Alondes Williams have entered the transfer portal. Harmon was Oklahoma’s No. 2 scorer this past season with 12.9 points per game. The 6-foot-2 sophomore missed the Sooners’ two NCAA Tournament games after testing positive for COVID-19. He started 22 of his 31 games as a freshman the previous year and averaged 7.4 points per contest. Williams started 14 games this past season as a senior and averaged 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA has officially approved a plan that will allow all college athletes to transfer one time as an undergraduate without having to sit out a season. The exception that has been available to athletes in most college sports for years will now also be available to football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s ice hockey and baseball players. Some in college sports, especially football, worry about potential consequences. Those include fewer scholarships available to high school recruits; power programs poaching players from small schools; and rosters turning over quicker than coaches can keep up. The change takes effect in September.
