Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir stated in an email Tuesday night that he plans to speak at the Barton County Commission meeting on Wednesday, April 5 to express his frustration with the current procedures with the county’s probation office.

In the email Bellendir stated, “As many of you have noted our community is plagued with repeat offenders committing crimes. It is the current policy of Central Kansas Community Corrections (probation office) to allow "clients" to have positive UAs (drug tests) for hard drugs with no consequences. As long as they do not get caught committing a new crime and show up for their appointments. No jail, not violated, just go ahead and continue to support the local dope dealers, continue to steal and commit crimes.”

Bellendir noted he has known about this policy for several months and tried to get this stopped to no avail.

“Tomorrow I will speak to the Barton County Commission in open session in an attempt to seek a resolution. If you are a concerned citizen, I invite you to attend the commission meeting at the Courthouse at 9 a.m.”
