The Panther baseball team scored early, then late to secure a 6-4 win Tuesday in McPherson. Great Bend led 2-0 after three innings but just 4-3 heading into the sixth. The Panthers scored their final two runs in the sixth inning, then gave up a two-out homer in the seventh.
Edwin Chavez singled in a run in the second inning, and Tyler Stuhlsatz scored on a sac fly from JJ Grove in the third inning. The Panthers capitalized on an error off Carson Umphres' bat in the sixth.
The teams combined for just 12 hits in the single game. Two of McPherson's five hits sailed over the fence. Stuhlsatz and Ian Premer each had two hits for the Panthers. Premer and Umphres both doubled. Bradley Hopkins reached base three times on walks.
Stuhlsatz pitched four innings for the win, striking out one and allowing one earned run on three hits. Umphres struck out three and allowed one hit in two innings of work, and Hunter Herrman struck out two in his one inning of action.
Great Bend takes a 5-4 record on the road to Garden City Friday.
