For the 9th straight season, Great Bend will be the location
for the Class 2-1A State Baseball Tournament. The Great Bend Recreation
Commission board accepted a letter of agreement with the Kansas State High
School Activities Association (KSHSAA) to host the tournament at the Great Bend Sports
Complex.
GBRC Assistant Superintendent Chris Umphres was pleased with the commitment from
a variety of organizations to execute a good tournament.
"The importance of what we have done in the past shows KSHSAA still has trust in the way we do the tournament," said Umphres. "They came back to us again, obviously it's a year to year deal, but with the turf now and the event that we put on, it shows that we're ready to go."
The dates for the 2023 tournament are scheduled for May 25 and May 26. USD 428 will cohost
the tournament along with the Recreation Commission.
This past May’s tournament in Great Bend was the first on the new artificial
turf. Last winter, a $1.37 million project placed turf at the five ballfields
of the complex.
