Barton Volleyball drops straight sets at 19th ranked Butler

The Barton Community College volleyball team took a straight set loss Wednesday night at the Power Plant in El Dorado as the 19th ranked Grizzlies of Butler Community College won 25-14, 25-9, and 25-10.

Barton dips to 3-9 in conference and 16-11 overall while Butler keeps its conference title hopes alive improving to 11-2 and 20-11 on the season. Next up for Barton is a Saturday 4:00 p.m. first serve hosting Colby Community College.

Attacking at a season low .027, Barton had just eleven kills in the contest led by Tasiah Nunnery's three on twenty-one swings and added a team high six digs and the Cougars' lone solo block on the night. Molly Norris and Jada Davis each contributed three and two assisted blocks respectively and combined for three kills.

The night began and stayed the course through the three sets with the Cougars' service receive and errors piling up points for the home team. Butler opened the scoring with seven straight, later going on 8-1 stretch in blowing open the set cruising to the eleven point victory.

Barton held a brief 2-1 lead in the second, only to have Butler take the next four before gaining more separation behind another four point spurt widening the lead to 16-7. The Grizzlies put the hammer down again late in the set rattling off the final seven points for the 2-0 match lead.

Much of the same ensued in the final set, a 7-1 Grizzlies early run built a 13-4 lead, growing it twelve before finishing off the night with a 5-1 stretch.
