Barton men's bowling places 10th, 6th in season opening SWIBC events

Competing in back-to-back Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) events to open the 2025-26 season, the Barton Community College men's bowling team notched a 10th place finish in Saturday's SWIBC I before improving to sixth in Sunday's SWIBC II at the City View Lanes this past weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.

SWIBC I Recap:
Saturday's season opener featured four individual games followed by 10 Baker rounds, as the Cougars totaled 5,712 pins to finish 10th among the 14 team varsity field. Also fielding a junior varsity squad, Barton impressed as well, rolling 5,710 pins for a fourth place showing amongst 11 JV programs.

Freshman Landyn Ziegenhirt guided the varsity lineup with a 27th overall finish and four game total 812, averaging 203 per game. One of two returners from a season ago, Campbell Peterson followed 12 spots back in 39th carding a 795 that included a varsity team game high 222, while Dayden Cunningham narrowly missed a top 50 finish in 54th behind a 759 four game mark.

On the junior varsity side, Jett Cosby headlined Barton's effort with a 13th place 870 total, rolling three of four games over the 200 mark highlighted by a 258 second game to close with a 217.5 average. Colton Swift followed two spots behind in 15th with an 862 tailored behind rounds of 229, 200, 241 and 192, while Owen Straub rounded out Barton's top JV finishers in 28th with a 812.

Oklahoma Cristian University captured the team title with 6,465 pins, while Newman's Kalin Ogata claimed individual top honors behind a 951 four game total.

SWIBC II Recap:
Sunday's tournament shifted to a six game individual format, where Barton climbed four spots from Saturday to finish sixth overall with 5,341 pins. The Cougars JV squad added a fifth place showing in the extra entry teams with 5,083 pins.

Cunningham paced the varsity lineup with a 1,185 total for 12th place, averaging 197.5 highlighted by an opening game of 266. Ziegenhirt followed in 28th carding a six game 1,100 while Simon Clark rounded out the varsity's top 50 finishers in 40th with a 1,044.

Straub led the JV group, edging Jacob Clark by two spots as the duo turned in six game totals of 1,048 and 1,043 for 39th and 41st respectively.

Like the Cougars, Newman University improved in Sunday's competition to capture the team crown with 6,171 total pins, while Southern Nazarene's Riley Speer topped the 157 individual field with a 1,309 six game total.

Barton will have a scrimmage next Wednesday traveling to Ottawa University before competing in its lone in-state event at the annual Tier-I Mid-States Championships held October 19-20 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas.
