The Panther bowling teams headed west to Liberal for triangular action Thursday afternoon. The Lady Panthers defeated the host Redskins and Holcomb and outscored Liberal 12-1 in Western Athletic Conference standings. The Great Bend boys came up 204 pins shy of first-place Holcomb but picked up 12 of the 13 WAC points against Liberal.
The Lady Panthers had the top-two individual series and placed three in the top five. Zoey Mayberry opened with games of 217 and 202 and stayed hot with a 191 for high-series of 610. She was the only varsity bowler to reach 200 in girls' action. Kaylin Wahlmeier stayed between 160 and 177 in her three games to place second with a 513 series. Holcomb's Emily Dryden placed third with a 458. Brooklyn Mayberry rolled a 166 final game to place fifth overall with a 438 series. Paige Heine finished at 383, and Rionna Rodriguez bowled a 320. The Lady Panthers bowled Baker games of 182 and 168 but faltered to a 133-116 loss in game two for Liberal's lone point on the day.
Joshua Manning took his turn leading the Panther boys with a second-place finish. Holcomb's Braydon Bastin had the high-game at 223 and the high-series at 562. Manning rolled a 134 to open the day but finished with games of 221 and 192 to capture second with a 547 series. Brantley Vsetecka was consistent with games between 161 and 176 for a 503 series. Daegan Miller hit 200 pins in his final game and just missed a 500 series at 488. Quinten Miller finished strong at 191 for a 454 series, Keaton Wahlmeier shot a 411, and Kenneth Leiker finished at 297 on the day. The Panther boys rolled a 162 in the final Baker game to beat Holcomb and Liberal. The Redskins took the first game from the Panthers 138-128 for their lone WAC point at the meet.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season on Feb. 15 in Hays, then compete in regional action the following week.
