Ellinwood is set to make its mark with a spectacular celebration as it hosts the Mrs. Roper Romp from June 13-15. Inspired by the iconic character from the classic TV show "Three's Company," this event promises a lively and nostalgic experience for all attendees.
The idea to bring the Mrs. Roper Romp to Ellinwood came from a passionate local resident who stumbled upon the event's Facebook page.
"When I saw the Mrs. Roper Romps happening around the United States, I knew Ellinwood had to be put on the map," said Becca Maxwell, event organizer and Sunflower Bank's Community Development Officer. "I love dressing up, wearing wigs, and just having fun. We have a really fun business group and the local Ellinwood Main Street businesses were thrilled to join in.
"What I really like is exactly what the theme song to 'Threes Company' says: 'Come and knock on our door. We've been waiting for you.' That's really going to be the theme of the event and we just plan to have a lot of fun next week."
Ellinwood's businesses are embracing the 70s theme with special promotions and decorations, creating a vibrant atmosphere reminiscent of the era. Whether you come dressed as Mrs. Roper or just bring yourself and a friend, the event is designed for everyone to enjoy.
"The businesses will be having fun with it," said Maxwell. "We just want to encourage people from out of town. Anybody can come and just romp around. It's a great time to highlight what our businesses have in them, and it's a fun way to get people shopping downtown."
Mrs. Roper Romps are often a way to raise money for area non-profits. Sunflower Bank, 13 N. Main Street, will be selling raffle tickets.
"Of course, I work with the United Way of Central Kansas," said Maxwell. "I thought this is a great way to spotlight what they do in our community. We want to invite the Mrs. Ropers to come into the bank. We'll have raffle tickets we're selling to raise money for United Way. We're also promoting the 70s-themed kickoff, which will be a 70s murder mystery event.

- Food and drinks with a 70s Trivia Contest at 10-39 Cafe
