One door is closing on a Great Bend food establishment, but another one
is expected to open at a later date.
For roughly 20 years, Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza company operated out of
the 3809 10th Street building in Great Bend.
Abby Ward and her sister owned the Papa Murphy’s restaurant in Hays, and
looking to expand, bought the restaurant in Great Bend five and a half years
ago.
Ward said the business was doing well, but decided to close the restaurant for personal
reasons.
"Any community is hard when you're over an hour away," said Ward. "It was good and we were profitable. The main reason for selling it is because I have small kids. The driving back and forth was not a priority."
Sunday, June 26 will be the last day Papa Murphy’s is open in Great Bend. Ward
and her sister will focus on the restaurant in Hays.
A Jimmy John’s sandwich chain owner has purchased the real estate in Great
Bend, but is still working on hiring architects and contractors. It could be close
to a year until the Jimmy John’s restaurant is complete.
