Jason Duvall will be on the sidelines Friday night for his first game as the head coach of the Larned Indians. He wants that moment to mean something different than it has for Larned the past couple of seasons.
According to the new head coach, he’s not concerned about the last few years, because the only thing that matters is what they do now. He wants this team to be able to look back at the season as the start of something special.
"We don't talk about last year. I don't refer to last year. Because I don't know about last year nor do I care about last year. I talk to these seniors, and everyone else, that this team is starting a new tradition, or we're setting pillars, things like that. Hopefully down the road, talking to these seniors, you see what you've started. And you can look back and say 'Hey, I was a part of that, we got it started, and moving forward.' Make them feel good aboutit.
"When you're starting out something, it is tough. Obviously, if you're successful, that's great. But if you're not as successful as you'd like to be, you feel like, well, we didn't do anything. Which is not true, because you have. You've set some things up for expectations for our kids coming in.
Larned opens the season traveling to play Smokey Valley on Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 8 PM. Coverage can be heard on Hits 106.9.
