During this week’s meeting, the Barton County Commission approved financial support for a project in Claflin focused on expanding access to childcare.

Matt Patzner, county administrator, presented a request to reimburse ABCC, Inc. for the cost of constructing a road that will provide access to a new childcare facility in Claflin. The total cost of the project was $9,808.00, with funding available through the county’s economic development resources.

The project represents a strong partnership between Barton County, the city of Claflin, and local organizations working together toward a shared goal. By supporting the development of essential infrastructure, Barton County is helping create opportunities that allow communities to grow and better serve their residents.

Commissioners noted that the childcare facility has been in development for several years and is now nearing completion. Once open, it will provide families in Claflin and surrounding areas with increased access to reliable childcare, supporting local workforce participation and economic stability.

Rather than completing the work directly, Barton County partnered with those already involved in the project to ensure the road was built efficiently and to proper specifications. This collaborative approach allowed the project to move forward smoothly while making effective use of county resources.

The Commission approved the reimbursement, reinforcing Barton County’s commitment to working alongside its cities and community partners to support projects that make a lasting impact.

This effort reflects how Barton County continues to invest in practical, community-driven solutions that benefit residents today while supporting long-term growth across the county.
