Barton Community College sophomore forward Vivian Onugha wrapped up an outstanding two-year career with the Cougars, cementing herself as one of the program’s most dominant players and earning multiple Division I scholarship offers.
In her freshman campaign, Onugha made an immediate impact for Barton, emerging as a key contributor in the frontcourt. She averaged 11.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, quickly establishing herself as one of the conference’s top rebounders. Her efforts helped Barton to a 22-10 record and a postseason run, where she played a crucial role in the Cougars’ success.
In her sophomore year, Onugha, a relentless presence in the paint, led Barton with 26 double-doubles, demonstrating her ability to control both ends of the floor. Her standout performance came in a pivotal 66-58 playoff victory over Garden City Community College, where she exploded for 29 points and 21 rebounds, marking her ninth game of the season with 20 or more rebounds.
Her consistent excellence earned her Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Player of the Week honors in Week 9, 11 and 13, a testament to her impact in one of the toughest junior college leagues in the nation. Over 32 games, she averaged a team-best 17.4 points per contest while serving as the Cougars’ defensive anchor.
The Cougars wrapped up the season with a 16-16 record, making a strong playoff push before falling in the quarterfinals to 7th-ranked Dodge City Community College. Despite the early exit, Onugha’s performances have left an undeniable mark on the program, setting a high standard for future Barton standouts.
Onugha’s dominance extended beyond her nightly performances, as she etched her name in Barton’s record books. During the 2024-25 season, she set the program’s single-season rebounding record with 514 boards, averaging an impressive 16.2 per game. She also recorded the most rebounds in a single game with 26 against Fort Hays Tech on January 8, 2025. Additionally, Onugha finished her career as Barton’s all-time leading rebounder with 828 total rebounds, securing her place among the program’s all-time greats. Her dominant play has garnered significant attention from NCAA Division I programs, with offers on the table as she prepares for the next chapter of her basketball journey.
