Young artists across USD 428 are once again inviting the community to experience their creativity and growth through the annual “Watching Young Artists Grow” virtual art show.

Now in its 26th year, the show features nearly 1,300 pieces created by USD 428 K-6 students. The online gallery is organized by school building, with each student selecting a piece that represents their best work from the year.

Throughout the school year, USD 428 elementary students explore a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums, allowing them to build skills and discover new forms of creative expression. One of the newer components of the program is fiber arts, including a knitted hat project introduced at the 6th-grade level. This hands-on experience has been made possible through the addition of new looms, funded by a mini-grant from the USD 428 Education Foundation.

“Each year, it’s incredible to see the creativity and growth our students demonstrate through their artwork,” said Shannon Wedel, USD 428 elementary art teacher. “The virtual gallery gives students the opportunity to proudly share their work with family and friends, whether they’re here in Great Bend or across the country.”

The USD 428 elementary art program is led by Shannon Wedel and Caleb Bartlett, who work with students across the district to develop artistic skills, encourage creativity, and build confidence through visual expression.

The community is encouraged to explore the virtual gallery at www.GreatBendSchools.net and celebrate the talents of USD 428’s young artists.
