United Way of Central Kansas is inviting businesses and community members across Barton and Pawnee counties to celebrate Dolly Day on Sept. 25.

Inspired by Dolly Parton’s iconic song and film "9 to 5," Dolly Day offers a fun way to honor her legacy of generosity, kindness and love of books while raising funds for the local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

“Our team is excited to celebrate Dolly Day, and we hope the entire community will join us,” said Charell Owings, UWCK Executive Director. “There is no single way to participate. Businesses, individuals, and organizations can choose an idea that works for them or create something entirely their own.”

Possible business activities include inviting customers to round up their purchases, donating $1 or a portion of sales from a selected item or service, encouraging employees to give $9.25, offering a Dolly-themed special, dressing in pink and rhinestones for a donation, matching employee or community gifts, or sponsoring a reader.

United Way of Central Kansas has created customizable social media templates that businesses can use to promote their Dolly Day plans. Businesses are encouraged to contact UWCK to request the templates, share what they are planning, or talk through ideas for participating.

A celebration will be held at Fridays on Forest from 5–10 p.m. on Sept. 25. Attendees can visit the Dolly Day photo booth, contribute to a community “Coat of Many Colors” art project and help fill the boot with donations supporting local children.

Nearly 850 children across Barton and Pawnee counties currently receive a free, age-appropriate book each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. A donation of $30 provides books to one local child for an entire year.
