Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz. He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka. He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools.
Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Beirut and Lebanon. After his tour was done, he returned to the Olmitz area.
Floyd was united in marriage to Clara Constance “Connie” Hewitt on Nov. 17, 1963, in Medicine Lodge. They made their home in Olmitz. They moved to the Russell area the last couple of years.
Floyd worked for Red Tiger in the oilfields. He was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. He was a past Commander of the VFW Post in Hoisington and later joined the VFW Post 6240 in Russell. He enjoyed hunting, especially bird hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Orville Tuzicka.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, at the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Olmitz, where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Vigil will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary. A Memorial has been established with St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
