Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) congratulates Braylee Carper and Quinton Heath, both juniors at Great Bend High School. These two students were selected to represent WEC at Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp this summer and were recognized at WEC’s annual meeting in Scott City, Kan. on April 23.

Eligible students completed an online application, including a short essay about a family, social, or school situation in which their leadership made the difference. Based on their applications and interview, Beck and Carper were selected as the two winners by the WEC Board of Trustees.

Carper and Heath will join 100 other high school youth representing cooperatives from Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Wyoming in Steamboat Springs, Colo. While there, students will learn about the cooperative business model, develop leadership skills, and listen to nationally recognized speakers.

Students also have the opportunity to raft the Colorado River, tour Craig Generation Plant, attend a high-voltage safety demonstration, and participate in other activities.

Applications for the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs and Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. are accepted each year beginning in November. High school juniors who reside in WEC’s service territory that are a legal dependent of an active member receiving service from WEC are eligible to apply.
