For the second consecutive conference meet, the 17th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team made a final round charge jumping up the standings resulting in a 2nd place finish at the KJCCC Meet No. 3 held at The Golf Club at Southwind in Garden City.
The Cougars opened with combined 58-over 342 score before posting a seven-stroke improvement at 51-over 335 on Thursday for an accumulated 109-over 677 and five strokes ahead of 15th ranked Garden City's 114-over 682 (330-352). Dodge City claimed its third title as the 9th ranked Conquistadors were thirty-eight strokes ahead of Barton with a combined 71-over 639 (325-314).
Barton will have the next two weeks preparing for post-season play on April 28-29 in the Region 6/Plains District Championships held at the Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling, Colorado.
Diana Alvarado opening play Wednesday with a 14-over 85 but then shot the 19-competitor field's third-lowest final round of 7-over 79 to move up the standings into 6th place overall at 22-over 164.
A pair of consistent rounds gave the Cougars two more in the top ten, Chomchanok Laparojkit in 8th place at 27-over 169, carding rounds of 84-85, while Joellen Vogt was in 9th two strokes behind at 29-over 171 on 85-86 cards.
Frida Medellin was one stroke out of the top ten in 11th place at 31-over 173, following an 88 card with a closing 85 score.
In 14th were the twin 90 rounds from Giovanna Tabanag at 38-over 180.
Kadynce Nash made the largest final round improvement of nine strokes, following a 96 card with an 87 to place 16th at 41-over 183 while Alayna Crosby rounded out the Barton entries in 17th at 46-over 188 on 92 and 96 cards.
