The last day of school is typically a day of celebration and looking forward to the summer. A pair of USD 428 employees at Great Bend High School had to go above and beyond on May 24 to get there. Monday night, teacher Bill Maddy and Emily Young, RN, were recognized by the board of education for their lifesaving work that day.
"Mr. Maddy identified an emergency student health situation quickly and effectively," said Superintendent Khris Thexton. "He calmly notified Emily Young, our RN, who immediately administered the appropriate medication and performed life-saving CPR. The teamwork of these two individuals saved the life of a student in need, and they're both acknowledged for their acts of service to our students and community."
Maddy and Young were presented with ROSE Awards in Recognition of Outstanding Support of Education. ROSE Awards are part of USD 428's continuing efforts to recognize individuals or groups for their services to the district and community.
